Bursting Strength Tester - ASI-1055

Bursting Strength Tester - ASI-1055

Application:
The Bursting Strength Tester is used to measure the resistance of materials
to bursting forces applied perpendicularly to the surface. It is commonly used
for testing:
 • Textiles (woven, non-woven fabrics)
 • Paper and packaging materials (corrugated boards, cartons)
 • Leather, rubber, and plastic films
 • Technical fabrics used in industrial applications
The instrument helps assess the strength and durability of materials subjected
to multi-directional stress.
Principle of Operation:
The Bursting Strength Tester operates on the hydraulic or pneumatic
pressure method, depending on the type of material being tested. The fundamental
principle includes:• A test specimen is securely clamped over a rubber diaphragm.
 • Air or hydraulic pressure is applied gradually under the specimen.
 • The specimen expands until it bursts, and the pressure at which the
 burst occurs is recorded.
 • Additional data such as bursting height, bursting distension, and time
 to burst are also measured.
 • The air pressure increases gradually, aiming for a burst time of (20 ±
 5) seconds.
 • A responsive control valve adjusts the air velocity to achieve the required
 testing time.
 • The bursting pressure and height are measured with high precision.

Technical Specification

Parameters
Name of the equipment: Bursting Strength Tester as per IS 1966 (Part 2) /ISO 13938 (Part 2) to be used for Bursting Strength test as per IS 15844 Part 1, 2 & 3
The apparatus capable of producing an increase in air pressure to achieve a testing time to burst of (20 ± 5) s. (Test pressure to be achieved up to 50 kg/cm2).
To achieve responsive adjustment of the air velocity, an indicating control valve is needed in addition to the main air valve of the apparatus.
Bursting pressure will be indicated with an accuracy of ±2 % of full-scale range above the first 20 % of range.
Height at burst up to 70 mm indicated with an accuracy of ±1 mm. Zero position of the measuring gauge shall be adjustable to accommodate the thickness of the test specimen.
A test area of 50 cm² (79.8 mm diameter) will be used. Other test areas of 100 cm² (112.8 mm diameter) or 10 cm² (35.7 mm diameter) or 7.3 cm² (30.5 mm diameter) to also be provided.
The clamping device provide for clamping of the test specimen securely without distortion or damage and prevent slippage during the test. The clamping ring allow undisturbed vaulting of highly expansive fabrics (e.g. fabric test specimens whose height at burst is greater than half of the test specimen diameter). All test specimen clamping ring inner diameters accurate to ± 0.2 mm. To avoid test specimen damage, a small curvature at the inner edge of the clamping ring facing the test specimen is to be provided.
A safety cover enclose the clamping device during the test when the expansion of the test specimen takes place. It allow clear observation of the expansion of the test specimen during the test.
The diaphragm shall meet the following requirements:
• thickness up to 2 mm;
• highly expansive;
• Diaphragm elastic within the range of height at burst observed during the test.
Data to be saved in memory with bursting pressure, bursting distension, bursting height & testing time to burst.
